It is of utmost importance that the operators have an in depth knowledge of the material being removed and being re-applied to provide an optimum profile for the new coating.
This is especially so when it comes to Heli-Decks. In offshore scenarios these platforms tend to be aluminium rather than steel substrates. Just like large areas of steel, the preferred method of coating removal is captive shot blasting, and experience preparing the softer aluminium substrate is a key requirement of any operator in such situations.
Captive shot blasting is not only a clean, environmentally friendly solution, where waste and contaminants are collected and contained, but it also has the advantage of greater control of the removal process. This makes it ideal for uncovering of welded seams for inspection without grinding / damaging them.
